Frequently Asked Questions
I do not study an economics-based subject. Will I still enjoy the Warwick Economics Summit?
Yes, of course. The talks span a wide range of topics including development, politics, globalization, international relations, business, finance and current affairs, of which many will be of interest to everybody. The less you already know, the more potential there is to expand your horizons and learn something new!
Where and when should I arrive?
Ideally you should aim to arrive at Warwick University Campus between 2:00pm and 5:00pm in order to register for the Summit. Please make sure you arrive at the Piazza (main square), where you will be directed to registration. This year, registration will be held in Meeting Room 3, Union North.
We would definitely recommend arriving in advance of the opening wine reception at 5:00pm in order to fully exploit the opportunity to meet our delegates from all over the world! Having said this, we understand that timetabling issues may make this arrival time impossible. If this is the case, just get in touch with us and we can make alternative arrangements.
When do I get to the hotel?
On arrival, please come straight to the University campus and not to the hotel. Transport will be provided to the hotel at the end of the final talk on Friday evening, at which point you will be able to check in.
What about my luggage?
When you arrive, come straight to the University, not to the hotel. We will keep your luggage secure until the end of Friday’s talks, at which point you will be able to take it with you to check into the hotel. On Sunday, you will check out of the hotel before being transported to the University campus for Sunday’s talks. We will then keep your luggage secure until your planned departure time.
How do I get to Warwick University Campus?
If travelling by rail, it is best to arrive into Coventry Railway Station. Then get the blue number 12 bus to the University Campus (bear in mind that these buses do not give change!) which leaves from the railway bridge to the left of the station as you exit the platform. It will probably be quicker (and also economical) to get a taxi if there is a small group of you. There is a taxi rank outside the station, simply ask to be taken to Warwick University.
It is also possible to arrive into Leamington Spa Railway Station, also a short bus ride away from campus. In this case, the number 12 and U1 buses leave from outside the station. Simply turn left as you exit the station and there is a bus shelter on the opposite side of the road.
Drivers, please see http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/visiting/maps. There is plenty of parking on campus, some of which is free. For more details please see http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/visiting/directions/parking/.
We are happy to give advice on getting to Warwick, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries at all.
What is the schedule for the weekend?
A provisional schedule is available on the website. However, please be aware that talks are always subject to change.
Is there any flexibility with the arranged transport from the hotel to the university campus? What if I want to go back to the hotel early?
Transport is included as follows:
- From campus to the hotel after the final talk on Friday evening.
- From the hotel to campus on Saturday morning in time to begin the day’s schedule with breakfast.
- From campus to the hotel after the dinner and dance on Saturday night.
- From the hotel to campus on Sunday morning, after checking out
If you would like to leave at a time other than the scheduled departure times, a taxi should cost around £10.00. However, please note that it will not be possible to check into the hotel before the close of the final talk on Friday evening.
In case of emergency during the Summit, whom should I call?
The emergency telephone number for the weekend will be 07981787321 and will be available 24/7. Please only contact this number in the event of a genuine emergency. If you have any general queries please call your delegation representative or ask somebody in a white Summit hoodie or polo shirt. To avoid confusion we recommend that you regularly check the Summit website for updates in the days preceding your arrival.
Which meals are included?
We provide meals on both nights as well as Saturday breakfast and lunch and Sunday brunch. Therefore there should not be any need to pay for a meal over the weekend! However, if you would like any additional snacks or beverages, there are coffee shops, restaurants and a mini-supermarket on campus. More information on these will be available in the Summit brochure, distributed on arrival.
Do you provide vegetarian meals? What if I have special dietary requirements?
Please let us know of any dietary requirements on registering for the Summit.
What is the dinner and dance?
You can look forward to a three-course meal in the Panorama Room on campus, before moving on to a private area within the Students’ Union with our own bar, DJ and live act. It promises to be an exciting end to the days’ talks, so don’t miss it!
